In addition to the usual opportunities a working farm in East Lothian might present Smeaton Estate has a number of unique characteristics.
While the old mansion house unfortunately no longer stands a number of the outbuildings remain including the old Ice House (an underground structure) and electricity house set in secluded woodland, both dating from c1790. The old grounds of the mansion house also offer a number of opportunities including:
In conjunction with the estate and the National Trust for Scotland it is also possible to use Preston Mill, an 18th century working water mill, as recently featured in Outlander- you can find us on the outlander tour trail.
With 20 acres of parkland, a beautiful lake and woodland, and a 2 acre site next to an 18th Century water mill there are plenty of options if you’re looking for somewhere to site a marque for that perfect rural wedding. We would be happy to recommend local marque, loo and catering providers if helpful. Just give us a call to discuss.

If you’re looking for a more intimate setting the garden centre tearooms, an old glass house set in the walled gardens of the old mansion house, has views over the owners well maintained gardens and is available for private hire. Recent events have included a 40th birthday party, a murder mystery party, an Alice in Wonderland themed baby shower, and 2 pop up restaurants hosted by the Mad March Hare.
